Go Green “Environment Protection” + -

At Mohan Lanka Foundation We take a comprehensive approach to environmental protection. We work with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, businesses, communities, and individuals.

Under the Go Green initiatives, Mohan Lanka Foundation has two core programmes. That’s ML Beach Cleanup and ML Zero Plastic Programme. These programmes complement and strengthen each other. ML Beach Cleanup initiated in 2018  adopts an approach of empowering communities to take collective action towards beach cleanups. In  2020 We created our  ML Zero Plastic Programme to reduce the & limit plastic consumption & waste.

This programme also Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) SDGs: 13 Climate action & SDGs: 14: Life below water.

Material and Credit flow

Our main two programmes promote circular economy strategies in the plastic V/SC. This helps to achieve two key policy objectives of the Go Green initiative. Eliminate pollution: The project helps to keep water streams clean and preserve biodiversity in Beaches and wetlands. Sustainable product policy: The project supports the circular design of all products and helps to reduce waste significantly, especially in resource-intensive sectors such as the textile industry.

Our Cleanup methods

Our programmes advances EPR regulatory frameworks and incentivises certification, eco-labelling, and obtaining EU/international standards for SMEs in accordance with its trade strategy published in 2021, which prioritizes sustainability.

It is time to change how we produce, consume and dispose of the plastic we use. “Less Go Green”

Disaster Management + -

Sri Lanka faces a diverse range of natural hazards, encompassing both widespread and localized threats. Cyclones, floods, landslides, and rock falls pose significant risks to communities across the island. Additionally, localized hazards such as lightning strikes, epidemics, and environmental pollution pose ongoing concerns. The Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004 tragically demonstrated Sri Lanka’s vulnerability to low-frequency, high-impact events. While earthquakes of moderate magnitude have been recorded in the past 400 years, they are relatively infrequent compared to other natural hazards.

With our Collaboration with Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Mohan Lanka Foundation provides rescue and rehabilitation support. Under the guiding principles of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Constitution. Our disaster management activities are pivoted on alleviating human suffering, providing effective disaster response, enhancing preparedness, and supporting disaster-related tracing. This aligns with Clause 25 of the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Act (No. 13 of 2005). While we collaborate with public authorities, we retain the independence to operate in accordance with our own rules and regulations.

In the aftermath of natural disasters, Mohan Lanka Foundation is committed to providing immediate and comprehensive rescue and rehabilitation support to affected individuals and communities.

Community Rebuilding and Livelihood Restoration: We support communities in rebuilding their homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods in the aftermath of the disaster. Our team works with local authorities, community leaders, and international organizations to coordinate reconstruction efforts, provide training and resources for rebuilding, and promote sustainable livelihoods. Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Training: We work with communities to enhance their preparedness for future disasters. We conduct training sessions, workshops, and simulations to educate communities on disaster risk reduction, emergency response protocols, and evacuation plans. We also collaborate with local authorities to strengthen disaster management systems and infrastructure.

In carrying out our disaster management activities, we uphold the fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, & independence, as enshrined in the Red Cross and Mohan Lanka Foundation.

Together, we strive to build a more resilient Sri Lanka, prepared to face the challenges of natural disasters and committed to alleviating human suffering.
